Born and raised in Central Illinois, Lindsey Moss’s artistic journey began at home, where she learned the traditional art of batik from her mother, who had spent part of her childhood in Indonesia. As a young girl, Moss fell in love with the tactile nature, distinct aromas, and hands-on process of working with hot wax and fabric dyes. This early passion was fueled by a childhood win at the county fair, which propelled her youth batiks all the way to the Illinois State Fair and solidified her desire to pursue a life in the arts.
This lifelong dedication to creativity eventually led her to a career in art education. She earned her BS in K-12 Art Education from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, complementing her studies with an experience abroad at the Istituto Lorenzo de’ Medici in Florence, Italy. For over twenty years, Moss has served as an elementary art teacher, nurturing the next generation of creators while continuously evolving her own studio practice. Today, her work merges her lifelong exploration of batik with interactive, conceptual collage to explore themes of anxiety and the human experience.
